Best You Never Heard: ‘One On One’ By Jason Derulo, Shekhinah & Falz
The Coke Studio Africa stage has been home to so many great performances — from Nasty C’s refix of Runtown’s “Mad Over You” to their eventual collaboration on “Said” — that a few were bound to fly under the radar.
One of such performances, that not enough people are talking about, is Jason Derulo, Shekhinah and Falz’s effortless collaboration on “One On One”.
An original song about healing after heartbreak, “One On One” was produced by the talented DJ Maphorisa and written by all three artists working at the top of their games. It might actually be the best thing to come out of Coke Studio Africathis year.
South African singer, Shekhinah, who has had a pretty great 2017 — releasing her amazing debut album — starts the song off, singing beautifully on the first verse. Jason Derulo eventually joins in at the bridge and their voices meld seamlessly.
Falz, who comes in at the second verse, is as solid as always. Switching accents and alternating between English and Yoruba, the “La Fête” rapper nearly steals the whole show, but this is clearly a group effort. “One On One” is so good, it would be a crime if it isn’t eventually released as a single.
Till that happens, though, listen to the audio of their live performance below:
