Listen To Tekno & Wizkid’s Surprisingly Inspiring New Single, ‘Mama’

Tekno and Wizkid are two brilliant afropop artistes who have made pretty successful careers out of crooning about love and women on most of their hit songs.

So, when we heard about “Mama”, their surprising but very welcome collaboration, we were fully expecting both artistes to retread familiar ground and give us a party-starter about a pretty girl whose “Mama born her well” or something along those lines. Well, we were very wrong.

Granted, on the Spotless-produced “Mama” both artistes do sing about women they love, their mothers, but the track isn’t some modern-day take on “Sweet Mother” either – 2Baba already gave us that on “Unconditional Love”.

On the song, both superstars sing about their hustle to “blow”. While Tekno sings about coming to Lagos with no money in his pocket, Wizkid sings about his Ojuelegba-to the-world success story.

Inspiring as “Mama” is, it is still a track sung by two young, successful musicians; so , of course, their is a lot of heavy-handed bragging. That aside, “Mama” is a pretty strong collaboration from two consistent hit-makers at the top of their games.
