Davido on Sunday won Best Worldwide Act and Best African Act at the 2017 MTV EMAs but was snubbed by the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) which held on the same day.
The singer became the first African act to win two MTV EMAs in one night while his perennial rival, Wizkid, won three awards at AFRIMA.
Although Davido was nominated for AFRIMA, he did not emerge winner in any of the categories.
Reacting, the singer posted a video on Instagram Story, saying: “Let those ones keep their awards. That award that peels.
“Even the ones that I collected last year would have peeled completely.”
The singer continued, saying, “My name is David. You can’t play with me and get away with it. 2018, I’m coming for you”.
The singer also advised “people” who wish to congratulate him on his win to save their effort, saying, “I don’t need it”.
Last week, Davido released his first song since losing two friends a month ago. ‘Fia’ was released days after the singer had announced he would be headlining his first Lagos concert in five years.
Wizkid emerged Best African Act at the 2016 MTV EMAs but the award was later retrieved and handed to Tanzanian singer Alikiba.
