The Most Iconic & Hilarious Moments We’ve Had In Nigerian Pop Culture

For millennials, the internet serves as a kind of virtual reality. We have our real life and adult responsibilities, and then our virtual playground (social media) which is teeming with content to entertain us everyday – no wonder we’re all addicts.

We have had some brilliant moments this year from #forthedchallenge to #drawingwhileblack, but let’s never forget the amazing moments in the past decade that have entertained us. It must really suck to not be Nigerian, because as a people we are actually hilarious and can make light of absolutely everything. Perhaps this is a coping mechanism since our country is so stressful and we need constant comic relief.

Here’s a round up of some of the most iconic moments we’ve had in Nigerian pop culture in the last decade:

Vic O

Vic O came and declared that “heverybody hafta pardy” and from his video with 3 guys, 1 girl and maybe 5 empty bottles it looked like mad fun!

Let’s not even get started on his lewks – looking like a knock off Flava flav (which is terrible because Flava flav already looks like a knock off of something else).

Majela Zeze Diamond

Majela was ahead of her time! Before the whole ‘men are trash’ movement, we had her telling us “men are stupid, I don’t even respect them”.

An icon of sexual liberation, we should have protected her at all costs and never let her fade away – actually on second thought maybe the memory of her is precious enough!

Davido’s Tim Westwood Freestyle

It might not have been Davido’s intention to make us laugh on this freestyle, but he did a damn good job.

It was painful to watch him struggle through the whole thing, but these 15 seconds made it all worth it. The part where he says “Ga – Hm”, *dying*

Dino Melaye

Ugh. Where does one even begin with this guy. Dino Melaye is a serving senator, who thought it was appropriate to respond to some allegations with this video:

Is Your Suit Alright?

The context of this has never been clear, as the clip of actress Mercy Johnson asking her date whether his suit is alright is what went viral.

However, the clip is from a movie Return Of Girls Got Season 2, where her date pisses her off and she is forced to ask him if his shiny suit is alright. Really though, what is this suit?

Odunlade memes

Odunlade Adekola is a gem in Nollywood and we really don’t deserve him. His hilarious facial expressions make for the funniest memes and there is one for every situation. We actually can’t wait for more!

I Never Espedded It

I’m not sure why we took the piss out of this guy so much, because he was honestly just speaking the truth!

After representing Nigeria in a race, this athlete was interviewed and dropped several gems – it is a full minute of belly laughs!

My Oga At The Top

As hilarious as this video is, it is just telling of the incompetence and ineptitude of Nigerians. A Lagos commandant was asked in an interview with Daily Sunrise what their company’s website is, and he couldn’t tell them because he didn’t know – ridiculous!

There Is God Oh!

Again, this shouldn’t be funny but like we said earlier, Nigerians can make light of anything. Following the tragic kidnapping of over 200 girls in Chibok by Boko Haram, this was Nigeria’s former first lady’s reaction. Safe to say, she has a career in Nollywood if she’s ever interested!

Bobrisky

You’re actually lying if you haven’t seen a video of  Bobrisky twerking somewhere on the internet! What even is he, an actor? a social media phenomenon? Just plain annoying? We don’t know but everyone is obsessed!
