Samira Sanusi Celebrates Brother Who Donated His Bone Marrow To Cure Her Of Sickle Cell Anaemia

Samira Sanusi will forever be grateful to her brother, Mustapha, who helped her get cured of the Sickle Cell Disease.

Samira was born with the disease but her brother donated his bone marrow, which helped her get cured and her genotype is now AA.

On Saturday, the 28th of October, Samira celebrated 13years of being healed from sickle cell.

Through her Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation, she is raising awareness and supporting the less privileged with the illness both emotionally and financially.

She tweeted,

Born with Sickle Cell, got cured in 2004 through Allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant, checked my Genotype today for the 3rd time, I’m still AA.

Sometimes being cured still feels like a dream, even after 13 years of no crisis. So I’m a little obsessed with getting re-re-re-tested.

13 years ago today @mustysanusi gave me his Bone Marrow/Stem Cells which cured me of Sickle Cell Anaemia.

Please read: My BROTHER donated his Bone Marrow to me. Not an anonymous donor, not a stranger, not the-marry-&-live-happily-ever-after type.

The best thing that has ever happened, and will ever happen to me was/is being cured of Sickle Cell Disorder with my brother’s bone marrow

No amount of money, medications, therapy or treatment would have saved my life without his bone marrow donation.

How amazing it is, being the miracle, the hope, the answered prayer, the cure. The end to someone’s suffering & pain. Be a match.
