Adekunle Gold Drops ‘Money’, A Prayer Wrapped In A Flawless Song
While we still haven’t gotten over his last single, the infectious “Call On Me”, the unopposed master of romantic highlife, Adekunle Gold manages to blow us all away (again) with a follow-up that completely ditches his romantic leanings: “Money”.

Produced by “Call On Me” collaborator Pheelz, “Money” isn’t what you’d expect from a track with that title. It isn’t a song about how many bottles he pops in the club or how many cars he’s gotten since his rise to fame, it’s a thoughtful prayer for success (kinda like a sequel to his 2015 hit “Pick Up”).
The song starts off with the instantly memorable lines “Father, plant money for my backyard/No recession for where you dey.” Like most of Adekunle’s songs, “Money” alternates between Yoruba and English, eventually gliding into its stellar chorus – which is easily the best part.
With his three-peat of 2017 bangers – “Only Girl”, “Call On Me” featuring Moelogo and now “Money” – Adekunle Gold’s upcoming sophomore album, About 30, seems set to be even better than his exceptional debut and we honestly can’t wait!
