How 20-Year Old Blessing Emah Will Change The Way Akwa Ibom People Make Ekpangnkukwo Delicacy Forever!
Blessing Emah, a 20-year old entrepreneur has just been rewarded with N1million by the Akwa-Ibom state Governor, Emmanuel Odom, for her creative business. Using cocoyam and water yam, Blessing made flour to prepare a sought-after delicacy, Ekpangnkukwo, in Akwa-Ibom.
Ekpangnkukwo is one of the traditional delicacies enjoyed in the state, but the process of making this food is said to be tedious, but with Blessing’s new flour, it is now easier to prepare this meal.
An orphan, who lived with her aunt, Blessing was inspired when she saw how her aunt made flour from beans, plantain, yam, and yellow corn.
She told woman.ng that she made the flour in one week and displayed it during the DAKKADA event, a forum created by the governor for the youths and that was where she was noticed.
“I made the flour from water yam and cocoyam. I went into this business because I saw my aunt do the plantain flour, beans flour and all of that. So I sat down and thought that if they could do all these flour, then, I can come up Ekpangnkukwo flour. It looked strange but I tried it and the flour came out well. I prepared it and it worked out,” she said.
Blessing got noticed by a representative of the governor at the DAKKADA exhibition where she displayed her products and the cooked food from the products.
Thereafter, she was awarded N1million grant to purchase equipment that will make her work easy and grow her business.
