Following Cannes Debut, ‘Potato Potahto’ Gets A November Release Date

Following suit from Nollywood last year when eight movies premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Ghaniaian film industry had a moment this year at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s Potato Potahto made its debut.

Starring Joselyn Dumas, Joke Silva, OC Ukeje, Chris Attoh and other popular actors, Potato Potahto tells the story of a divorced couple (OC Ukeje and Joselyn Dumas) who decide to still live together in their marital home after their split, and the complications that follow that decision.

Since its debut at Cannes, Potato Potahto has been screened at the Durban International Film Festival, the British Urban Film Festival and Silicon Valley African Film Festival. It was also the first film of its kind to screen at the Chelsea Film Festival and is heading to the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival next month.

Speaking about the journey of making this film, critically-acclaimed director Shirley Frimpong-Manso said:

“It has been a whirlwind taking our labour of love across the world. I have truly been overwhelmed by the universal acceptance of the movie, the unusual storyline and our incredible cast; I look forward to when Potato Potahto finally hits the cinemas.”

A release date has been set, and the movie will be showing from November 24 in cinemas around Nigeria and Ghana, and from November 30 in South Africa.
