Niger Tornadoes winger, Wilfred Angel Ammeh, believes his side were unlucky to have been beaten by Akwa United during Sunday night’s Aiteo Cup final.
The Ikon Allah Boys were beaten 2-3 on penalties after full time score stood goalless in Sunday’s Aiteo Cup final at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos.
Ammeh said his side came into the clash as underdogs but performed creditably far better than the eventual winners, Akwa United.
“Firstly, we actually came with a match plan to go home with the Aiteo Cup trophy and we were almost achieving the mark but football could be cruel at times.
“We did everything humanly possible within the regular time to win the encounter unfortunately we lost the game eventually via penalties.
“Although we lost the clash we left a statement at least the whole world now know and the winners, too that we gave it our whole best performance.
“Our game plan was to fight hard in the first half to get a goal and bury the match as we so much believe in our defenders to curtail any foray the opponents will make towards our vital area sadly it did not work out as planned.
“We saw the Cup right there on our laps but allowed it to slip off our hands, maybe it is fate or hard luck as we were clearly the better side.
“Akwa United are good side we played them twice in the league we won the first fixture clash while they trashed us with three unreplied goals in the second clash.
“However, coming into this clash we know it is a Cup final and we need to match them in every department of the game and we did to their surprise because they never expected us to give them a tough fight.
