With her most recent single, “Knack Am” and her third studio album, Black Magic due to drop anytime this month, we were kind of assuming Yemi Alade was done with the Mama Africa portion of her artistry – well, we were wrong.
Instead of releasing a brand new single, Yemi Alade decides to drop the video for one of the songs off her four-month-old Mama Afrique EP: the Swahili version of “Nakupenda” featuring Kenyan artiste, Nyashinski.
“Nakupenda”, which was originally on Yemi Alade’s acclaimed second studio album, means “I love you” in Swahili. So while the song has an English version (the original), a Portuguese version and a French version, the Swahili version is easily and unsurprisingly its strongest.
For the simple music video, which was directed by Ovie Etseyatse, Yemi Alade looks positively regal playing a bride-to-be preparing for her big day. She seems to have finally found her (Kenyan) Johnny, played by the dapper Nyashinski.
