Watch Nse Ikpe-Etim In The Trailer For Akin Omotoso’s New Silent Film

Acclaimed filmmaker Akin Omotoso is definitely on an artistic roll. A couple of months ago, his feature film, Vaya, took home three awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards; and it was later announced that it will be submitted for Oscar consideration.

So, of course we were all excited to see what project the brilliant director would hop on next. While an experimental silent film starring the luminous Nse Ikpe-Etim isn’t exactly the direction we thought he would take, we are hyped none the less.

Titled A Hotel Called Memory, the film has been interestingly dubbed a “tone poem” – meaning it will use a grand musical score, rather than dialogue, to tell its story.

Set in Lagos, Zanzibar and Cape Town, the film follows Lola (played by the Ikpe-Etim), who leaves her husband and the city she’s always known, to seek solace in a brand new place – hoping to forget the past and move on with her life.

The film is produced by veteran actress Ego Boyo (Checkmate), who recently called out Nollywood filmmakers for their lack of originality. It’s great to see that she is actually putting her money where her mouth is and supporting talented filmmakers.

A Hotel Called Memory will premiere in Nigeria on October 8.
