Tosin Oshinowo’s Made-In-Nigeria Furniture Collection Is Both Colourful & Quirky

With more and more Nigerians actively trying to practice, instead of just chant, 2016’s unofficial mantra, “buy Naija to grow the naira”, it’s great to see a lot more local designers putting in the effort to create things we would actually want to buy.

One of such designers is Tosin Oshinowo, the brilliant architect behind the striking Maryland Mall, who recently launched her furniture brand, ilé Ilà.

ilé Ilà (which means House of Lines) is a furniture line designed and handmade entirely in Nigeria. The brand seamlessly combines contemporary designs with our local cotton fabrics – ranging from Aso Oke to Ankara.

Speaking with Bella Naija about the importance of culture to the brand, Tosin said:

“Cultural Identity is paramount. At ilé Ilà, each chair is named based on its aesthetic – from Àràbà (which means aged tree) to Alààfíà  (which means peace on this house), each chair is a proud celebration.”
