Dangote Plans To Set Up A University In Abuja

It seems Aliko Dangote is into everything these days.

Last week, Dangote announced he will buy English football club, Arsenal once he has completed his refinery in Ibeju-Lekki.

Dangote who is head of the Dangote Group that has interests in Sugar, Cement, Pasta, Tomatoes and host of others is now going into the education sector.

Dangote has earmarked 200 million Naira for the establishment of a world-class university in the Federal capital territory. A proposal has been sent to the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) for approval. Former Executive Secretary of the NUC and head of the technical team for the establishment of the university, Julius Okojie said the proposed university will be technology driven and asked for the cooperation of the NUC in the completion of the university.

According to the CEO of the Dangote Foundation, Zouera Yousouffou, land has been purchased for the University and other preliminary measures are in place to make the University a reality.

Current Executive Secretary of the NUC, Abubakar Rasheed has promised the Dangote Foundation the total support of the University Commission. He also advised the technical team to reconsider the idea of a university of technology as a conventional university running all programmes with a speciality in the area of technology would be better.
