8 Popular Issues Nigerians No Longer Talk About

Nigerians are bombarded with information day in, day out.

Many popular issues that were making the rounds. These issues were hotly debated and discussed. They have all but disappeared from public consciousness as Nigerians live their lives. Here are those issues:

1. MMM

Nigerians have largely forgotten the pyramid scheme that many of them lost millions of Naira to even though the scheme is trying to stage a comeback.

 

2. Bad power supply

We have largely accepted our lot when it comes to power supply and depend more on our generators.

 

3. Evans the kidnapper

His arrest made the headlines for months. Many celebrated his capture. Nigerians were sure they would sleep better knowing he was behind bars. Months down the line, Evans the kidnapper has largely been forgotten as his case hasn’t progressed the way the public thought it would.

 

4. Defeating Boko Haram

Every few months, the Nigerian Army announces they have defeated the extremist sect, Boko Haram. Nigerians have heard Boko Haram has been defeated so many times that they no longer talk about it but have adjusted to news of kidnappings, bombings and killing by the sect.

 

5. Dasuki

Who remembers Dasuki and the amount he is alleged to have stolen?

 

6. Recovered stolen public funds

Every few weeks, Nigerians are treated to unimaginable amount in millions of dollars and naira recovered from ex-public servant. This has gotten so much that many Nigerians just disregard it as propaganda.

 

7. Fuel Hike

Nigerians have finally accepted that fuel would be priced at 143 Naira and moved on with their lives. Fuel is never going to be cheap in Nigeria.

 

8. Recession

Recession was all most Nigerians could think and talk about a few months ago. The high prices of goods and services were also discussed. Seems Nigerians have accepted the high inflation rate and moved on with their lives.

 

The point of keeping things in our collective consciousness is to force the government to act. How will the government fix things if we move on to the next big trend?
