VIDEO: How A Visit To Nigeria Influenced Eghosa Amadin’s Decision To Reject Seven Ivy League Schools

The desire to do more for Nigeria has made a high school graduate from Texas to reject all the seven Ivy League schools she had been offered an admission.

ABC reported that Eghosa Amadin was accepted to more than a dozen of the top universities in the country but she is ditching them to go to Stanford University.

On why she is making the sacrifice, Eghosa explained that a visit to Nigeria, where she saw the level of poverty, makes her want to do more for the country.

“There are just slums and there would be hundreds of people just laying down and one little area trying to eat anything that they can and I guess in that moment I realized I have to do better. I had to do more. I have to do the best that I can to move higher in life. It’s empowering them, making them feel like they can do more for themselves as well.”

Eghosa hopes to go back to Nigeria one day to help people living in the slums.

So, she has decided to go to Stanford to pursue an engineering degree because of the research opportunities there and which will help her fulfill her dreams.

“Being in the heart of Silicon Valley, I think the opportunity for internships, research opportunities, for jobs, would be more plentiful over there.”
