Ed Sheeran Meets Tekno, Jidenna, Falz & More In This ‘Shape Of You’ Mashup
So many things came together to make Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” – now one of the most successful singles of all time – such a perfect pop song. And to think the track was originally meant to go to Rihanna.
While the lyrical rhythm (which borrowed heavily from TLC’s “No Scrubs”) and Sheeran’s smooth delivery deserve a lot of credit for the song’s overall appeal, we believe the marimba-fueled percussive sway bubbling underneath is the real hero.
A brilliant mashup of Africa’s biggest names
Spyro – a true star in the making – further proves our point by brilliantly remixing “Shape Of You” with a bunch of songs by artistes billed to perform at the One Africa Music Fest in London later this month on May 13.
Starting with Reekado Banks’ “Problem”, then running through bangers like Jidenna’s “Little Bit More”, Tekno’s “Rara”, Adekunle Gold’s “Anwo Ko” and Falz’s “Karashika” – it’s really impressive to see how flawlessly all these different sounds were able to come together over the solid beat.
