How Olanrewaju Adeloye Is Saving The Lives Of Mothers And Children In Nigeria

According to a UNICEF report, Nigeria loses about 2,300 children under five years old and 145 women of childbearing age every single day. This makes us the second largest contributor to the under–five and maternal mortality rate in the world.

What makes this report even more devastating is the knowledge that if essential interventions had reached these women and children on time, their deaths could have been averted.

When this statistic became a reality in Olanrewaju Adeloye‘s life – he lost his baby cousin due to negligence – he decided to make a difference by creating SaferMom.

Improving mother and child health in Nigeria

Olanrewaju’s SaferMom is a platform that helps mothers, irrespective of their social status or geographic location, to ask, share and connect with other experienced mothers and verified doctors.

It also helps mothers monitor and track their health, the health of their newborn babies, antenatal care, immunization schedules and a lot more.

The best thing about the app is that irrespective of the user’s type of phone, access to internet, language or location, the content is easily accessible. The content is also available in English, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo.

In 2016, Olanrewaju was one of the three Nigerians awarded the Queen’s ‘Young Leaders Award’ – an award that recognizes exceptional millennials who are taking the lead in their communities and using their skills to transform lives.
