Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari through the Aisha Buhari foundation has acquired 20 rice mills and 25 fish driers to empower female farmers across the country.
This was disclosed by her spokesman Suleiman Haruna in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Haruna, Mrs. Aisha believes that women need to be economically empowered to be able to play their role in the socio-economic development of the society.
Furthermore, he stated that the acquisition of the equipment is part of a larger strategy to uphold the dignity of women through education and empowerment which recently led to the Aisha Buhari foundation that engages with appropriate federal authorities to recover community learning centers across the country, so that women who had minimal formal education can benefit through a non-formal arrangement.
He added that the rice mills comes in two varieties, which includes those with the capacity to process 20 tons per day and those with the capacity to process 10 tons per day.
In order of distribution, seven states are to receive 10 mills with 10-ton processing capacity while eight states will receive 10 mills with 20 tons processing capacity.
Also, the 25 fish driers with the capacity of 20 unit per hour will go to 13 states across the country.
However, Haruna noted that the equipment would be in the custody of first ladies of beneficiary states.
